FDA Approves Higher-Dose Wegovy HD (Semaglutide) Under the National Priority Voucher Program
On March 19, 2026, the FDA approved a new higher dose of Wegovy (semaglutide) injection, called Wegovy HD, to reduce excess body weight and maintain weight reduction long-term in adults with obesity or overweight with at least one weight-related condition. The FDA announced the approval in a press announcement on the National Priority Voucher program.
The FDA said the decision, granted 54 days after filing, was the fourth approval under the Commissioner's National Priority Voucher pilot program. That program context is part of the regulatory record for this approval, alongside the product and indication the agency approved.
Wegovy HD is a distinct product action from the Wegovy pill approval of December 22, 2025, which covered a different semaglutide product. Each semaglutide approval is product-specific and indication-specific, even though the molecule is the same.
As with every FDA approval, the decision applies to the specific product, Wegovy HD, and the specific indication on its label. It does not extend to compounded formulations, research compounds, or any other use of the molecule.
