Also known as: CST-14, cst14, cortistatin-14
Cortistatin is a neuropeptide best known in its 14 amino acid form, cortistatin-14, which is cut from a larger human precursor protein. It shares its receptor family with somatostatin and is studied in neuroscience for its calming effect on cortical activity and its links to sleep regulation.

Cortistatin can refer to:Cortistatin (neuropeptide), a peptide hormone Cortistatins, a class of steroids applied against angiogenesis
Cortistatin signals through somatostatin receptors, where it can suppress forskolin driven cAMP production, and it also acts as a ligand for MRGPRX2 on mast cells. Through these pathways it is associated in research models with reduced neuronal excitability and sleep modulating effects.
Cortistatin entered the literature as a cortex associated neuropeptide related to somatostatin. Research showed that it binds all somatostatin receptor subtypes and can lower cAMP production in responding cells, and later work added the mast cell receptor MRGPRX2 to its known targets.
