Also known as: growth hormone releasing hormone, somatoliberin, GRF
Growth hormone-releasing hormone, also called GHRH or somatoliberin, is a 44 amino acid hypothalamic peptide. It is studied in endocrinology as the brain signal that prompts the pituitary gland to produce and release growth hormone.

Growth hormone–releasing hormone (GHRH), also known as somatocrinin among other names in its endogenous form and as somatorelin (INN) in its pharmaceutical form, is a releasing hormone of growth hormone (GH). It is a 44-amino acid peptide hormone produced in the arcuate nucleus of the hypothalamus.
GHRH is released by the hypothalamus and travels to the front lobe of the pituitary, the adenohypophysis, where it stimulates the secretion of growth hormone into the circulation.
GHRH was characterized as the hypothalamic releasing factor for growth hormone, completing the classic picture of pituitary control by the brain. Research since then has mostly examined its role within the growth hormone axis, including rare cases where tumors outside the pituitary release GHRH and drive excess growth hormone.
