Also known as: glp2, glucagon-like peptide 2, teduglutide precursor
Glucagon-like peptide 2, shortened to GLP-2, is a 33 amino acid peptide cut from the proglucagon precursor in gut endocrine cells. It is studied for its growth promoting effects on the intestinal lining and its role in nutrient absorption. A modified form is known in research catalogs by the name teduglutide.

Peptide in Homo sapiens
Glucagon-like peptide-2 (GLP-2) is a 33 amino acid peptide with the sequence HADGSFSDEMNTILDNLAARDFINWLIQTKITD in humans. GLP-2 is created by specific post-translational proteolytic cleavage of proglucagon in a process that also liberates the related glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1). GLP-2 is produced by the intestinal endocrine L cell and by various neurons in the central nervous system. Intestinal GLP-2 is co-secreted along with GLP-1 upon nutrient ingestion.
GLP-2 acts through the GLP-2 receptor on intestinal tissue. Signaling from this receptor supports growth of the intestinal epithelium and helps the gut take up nutrients, and laboratory work also links the pathway to protection of the intestinal barrier during immune driven injury.
GLP-2 comes from the same proglucagon gene that yields glucagon and GLP-1, with each product released from a different segment of the precursor protein. Interest in GLP-2 grew around its intestinal growth activity, which set it apart from the glucose focused roles of its sibling peptides.
