Also known as: adrenomedullin 2, AM2, IMD
Intermedin, also known as adrenomedullin 2 or AM2, is a 47 amino acid peptide belonging to the calcitonin family, documented in UniProt under accession Q7Z4H4. It is relevant in cardiovascular and gastrointestinal research, including blood pressure and heart studies. Its molecular formula is C219H350N68O67S3, and it has a mass near 5103.78 daltons.

Family of peptide hormones and neuropeptides
The melanocyte-stimulating hormones, known collectively as MSH, also known as melanotropins or intermedins, are a family of peptide hormones and neuropeptides consisting of α-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (α-MSH), β-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (β-MSH), and γ-melanocyte-stimulating hormone (γ-MSH) that are produced by cells in the pars intermedia of the anterior lobe of the pituitary gland.
Intermedin engages receptor complexes built from CALCRL paired with RAMP proteins, with the CALCRL-RAMP3 pairing the most studied. This interaction activates the cyclic AMP signaling pathway in target cells, which underlies its regulatory roles in both gastrointestinal and cardiovascular activity.
Intermedin was identified as a relative of adrenomedullin, the peptide it most closely resembles, and it continues to be referred to by both names. Rat and mouse variants of this peptide are also cataloged in UniProt alongside the human form.
