Also known as: kisspeptin 10, kp-10, kp10, metastin 45-54, KP-10
Kisspeptin-10 is the terminal 10 amino acids of the kisspeptin family, also known as metastin 45-54 and KP-10. It is cataloged under the human KISS1 entry Q15726 in UniProt, with a mass near 1303.44 daltons. It is primarily researched within the scope of the reproductive hormone axis.

Kisspeptin-10 binds the receptor KISS1R, also called GPR54, on GnRH neurons in the hypothalamus. This interaction activates Gq signaling: phospholipase C processes PIP2, intracellular calcium rises, potassium channels close and cation channels open, and the neuron fires, leading to GnRH release. A second, slower route through beta-arrestin triggers the MAPK cascade and ERK1 and ERK2 phosphorylation.
Kisspeptin-10, derived from the KISS1 precursor, is the shortest commonly studied member of the kisspeptin family. The same decapeptide sequence is cataloged in rat, mouse, and macaque records as well as the human entry.
