Also known as: NMB, neuromedin B peptide
Neuromedin B, or NMB, is a 10 amino acid bombesin related neuropeptide, listed in the human UniProt entry P08949 with a mass of about 1133.30 daltons. It is found in the gastrointestinal tract, the brainstem respiratory centers, and pathways involved in itch perception.

Neuromedin B (NMB) is a bombesin-related peptide in mammals. It was originally purified from pig spinal cord, and later shown to be present in human central nervous system and gastrointestinal tract.
Neuromedin B interacts with its receptor NMBR to induce smooth muscle contraction. In the brainstem it influences the pre-Botzinger complex to regulate sighing, and sensory neurons release it in the nose in response to irritants or allergens, where it helps trigger sneezing. Additionally, NMB contributes to acute itch via NMBR on dorsal root ganglion neurons and is associated with testosterone production and cell growth in Leydig cells.
Neuromedin B owes its name to its identification in neural tissue and its family link to bombesin, a peptide initially isolated from frog skin. This peptide is also cataloged in mouse and pig records in addition to the human entry.
