Also known as: secretin peptide, SCT
Secretin is a 27 amino acid hormone released by S cells in the duodenum, registered in UniProt under accession P09683. It plays a central role in maintaining proper acidity in the small intestine by triggering bicarbonate release from the pancreas. It has a mass of approximately 3040.40 daltons.

Hormone involved in stomach, pancreas and liver secretions
Secretin is a hormone that regulates water homeostasis throughout the body and influences the environment of the duodenum by regulating secretions in the stomach, pancreas, and liver. It is a peptide hormone produced in the S cells of the duodenum, which are located in the intestinal glands. In humans, the secretin peptide is encoded by the SCT gene.
Secretin interacts with its receptor SCTR, a G protein coupled receptor expressed by several cell types. In the pancreas it stimulates duct cells to release bicarbonate, which neutralizes stomach acid entering the duodenum, and it also restrains further gastric acid production. After a meal, secretin can also activate brown fat thermogenesis, a signal that contributes to satiation.
Secretin is historically significant as the first hormone ever described, initially noted for its role in stimulating pancreatic secretion. Its known roles have since expanded to include food intake, water regulation, and meal related heat production in brown fat.
